Our Scripture: Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. (Matt. 28:19-20 ASV)

Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: (Phil 1:6 KJV)

What does it mean to truly be given to serving Christ.  We are becoming a church whose entire focus is making disciples.  It is at the root of everything we do.  From children's ministry to adult ministry, we are about making disciples.  It shoud be understood, in order to make disciples one must first be a disciple.  As a disciple we should be pursuing to be like Jesus in all we do, how we live and who we are.  We should:

  • Believe what Jesus believed (transformed mind)
  • Living the way Jesus lived (transformed character)
  • Loving the way Jesus loved (transformed relationships)
  • Ministering the way Jesus ministered (transformed service)
  • Leading the way Jesus led (transformed influence)

Transformation is the natural progression of the walking out the process of living our lives for Him and becoming like Him.  Much like the metamorphosis of a caterpillar becoming a butterfly, we are going from lives dominated by fleshly desires to ones dominated by the Spirit of God working in us.

Jesus started out His training of the disciples with what we call the Sermon on the Mount.  The foundation of this training started with understanding what it means to be Blessed.  This Blessedness can come only through God.  It is a characteristic of His presence and Deity in your life.  We look at our circumstances as an indication of being blessed but that is not where blessedness occurs.  It occurs in your life as you are one of His children.  In understanding these values at the beginning of this passage, we will better be able to apply what Jesus is saying through all He taught and how He lived.

Our purpose is to turn non-religious people into fully devoted followers of Christ.

Our mission is to accomplish our purpose through intentional disciple making at every point of contact with people.

VISION FOR THIS YEAR:

As I was praying about this year, 2008, I believe I heard the Lord say this would be a year of "Outreach".  We need to be praying with this in mind.  Lord, help us to be flowing in unity with your Spirit this year.  That we would fulfill your call for us and be walking in the center of your will and desires.

All to Jesus, I surrender;
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.

I surrender all, I surrender all,
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all

We have two special prayer requests that we need answered this summer. Please pray with us:

The 5,000 Watt gasoline-fueled generator we purchased to run the electrical needs of the school is failing. It is too small and lightly constructed for the demands we are making. It does not appear that power lines will be put into the valley in the next couple of years therefore, we must purchase a new, more powerful diesel-fueled generator. This cost is not in our budget.

House of Prayer protection.
Three times in the last four months, "someone" has visited the school building in the middle of the night. We have on-site personnel 24/7 but our unarmed worker that sleeps in the building during the week is becoming terrified. We need your prayers for guidance. The Lord put His angels around the property and has protected in an amazing way, but we do need to be as responsible as possible with what He has put in our hands. We have three options: flood lights, guard dogs or a chain-linked fence. Please pray we are wise and God will provide before we leave for the States.

Meekness
Recently, we were confronted with the question, "Are you carrying an offense against someone? Are you easily offended by remarks or actions of others?" Offense is a pride issue and brother to bitterness. It is an immediate joy-robber with thoughts of "self" instead of how I can bless Jesus in the situation. The question caused soul-searching on my (Sharman’s) part and repentance. A line in a popular song goes: "I forgave my offenders and THEN I rose up to fight."
One night as we were worshiping with the Florida Outpouring via the Internet, the believers began to lovingly call out Jesus’ Name. I was suddenly given a vision of Pilot’s courtyard. The bloody, pain-racked Jesus was on one side, the hateful terrorist on the other. The crowd began to chant "Barabas" and I felt a stab of agony in my heart. The people Jesus had fed, healed and patiently taught were rejecting Him even as He was going to die to save them. Yet He was not offended. "Who for the joy that was set before Him, endured the Cross, despising the shame..." (Heb. 12:2).
If we walk with an offended spirit, constantly finding fault with those around us, we cannot receive the joy of the Lord to us in full measure. We cannot fight the good fight for the Kingdom because our eyes are on ourselves instead of the Kingdom first. We cannot complete the destiny of our lives because we are busy complaining and being distracted by how offended we are. To carry an offended spirit and bitterness to the grave, is to die unhappy and unfulfilled. What will we say to Jesus when He asks what we did with the life He gave us?
Ask the Lord, as we did, to remove this sin from you. Jesus bore our griefs on the cross, so give all those "offenses" to Him. Be crucified with Christ; be alive in Christ. Be filled with the opposite of offense - be filled with meekness and inherit the earth for the Kingdom. Lord, Let the sweet Name of Jesus be on our lips as we walk through the day.

Zimbabwe Outreach Extended

Aug '08 Prayer & Share Letter

Dear Ministry Partners, Friends & Family,

Greetings from the Harding Family in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.  We trust that this letter finds you well and enjoying the latter part of your summer.  We are entering into the latter part of our southern hemisphere winter with cool nights and reasonably warm days.  This winter has been mild and it is enjoyable to wear a jacket in the morning and be in shorts (if you want) and short sleeves by mid morning until evening.

Special Prayer Coverage
First of all we say that we really appreciate the prayer coverage during this challenging season.  We are doing well, but really sense the intensified spiritual battle over things here right now.  With the challenges in the political and economic realms, we sense that the battle is for the destiny of God for this nation.  Honestly, we wonder how some of our friends manage just to survive the daily challenges.  Please continue in prayer with us for the work, the national church, the nation and for our family.  I was just reminded of an encouraging discussion with one of the single moms earlier today.  She was telling me about a small poster she has as a daily reminder.  It says, "The will of God will not lead you where the grace of God cannot sustain you."

S.M.I.L.E. Village Project
In spite of the current situation progress continues with the S.M.I.L.E. Village Project.  Someone once said that doing something worthwhile starts with a vision, but sooner or later translates into hard work.  It seems that this describes this project exactly.  Vision began quite some time ago, but now we are in hard work phase.  However, we want to report that the holes for the foundations of two of the houses are dug with a third one in progress.  In spite of the ground being very hard now, the non-rainy season is the best time of the year to do the digging.  If all continues well, the foundation digging will be completed within a few weeks.
We are still trusting God to raise up financial partners to join us to see vision become reality.  The vision is for the village to be a safe, secure place for single moms to live with their children.  It will be a place to help them help themselves through growing food, selling food, skills training, and sewing projects, just to mention a few things.  Thanks for praying and responding.

Destiny Curriculum Development
Since the need for curriculum sponsors was shared last month, we have gone ahead in faith with printing more books.  We appreciate those who have responded, but more help is needed and the opportunity to sow into the lives of African teachers and children is still there.  Right now, two books are at the printers with a third one going in later this week.  Within a few weeks we will be printing (a reprint run) a fourth book.  Here is your opportunity.  The cost of printing and getting into a children's worker's hands is $8 per book -- $800 for each 100 books of each age level.   Prayerfully consider helping us put tools into the hands of workers as they sow God's Word into the hearts of children in Africa as we print the Destiny Curriculum.   As we said before,"The battle for the hearts and minds is on."  You and I have a great opportunity to impact  lives in this critical season.  REMEMBER -- "They're not JUST children, they're Africa's future!"  Checks may be sent to DSBC, Box 4911, Pasco, WA 99302, and designated for Destiny Curriculum.  Thank you.  Your partnership is making difference.

Prayer & Partnership
Thanks so much for your consistent, faithful partnership during this critical season.  Interestingly enough, the Chinese character for "crisis" is made up of the two characters for "danger"and öpportunity." That describes exactly what is happening here now.  This is the time for praying and not fainting.  The prayer needs are much the same as last month.

1    Pray for the peace of Zimbabwe especially during the transition time
2    Pray for God's Kingdom to come and His will to be done in Zimbabwe as He has purposed in heaven for Zimbabwe
3    Prayer for total provision for the Destiny Curriculum book printing
4    Pray for our health, safety and strength
5    Pray for the doors of effective ministry as we continue teaching seminars, ministering to moms & kids, and work on plans for the SMILE Village Project

Thanks and God bless you,

Dan and Yvonne Harding & Family
